The DeKalb Plan Commission has approved some rule changes designed to cut down on the amount of sign clutter seen in the city, while at the same time, allowing businesses to use temporary signs more. The commission Wednesday night voted 4-0 to approve changes to the city’s temporary sign ordinance. They now go to the City Council for review. If approved there, businesses and organizations would be allowed to use temporary signs for two-weeks six-times a year, up from two-times a year now. The minimum fine for breaking the rule would also increase from $25 to $250, a move to encourage compliance. Commission members did question how well the city will be able to enforce the rules following this summer’s reductions in city staff.
